Two back alleys opposite one another. One clean and green, the other a rat-infested dump.
Here in Yangon, they’re nearly all of the depressing variety. But the good news is some of them are being cleaned up, bit by bit, largely due to the great work done by the Doh Eain organisation.
But don’t think it’s easy, because it’s not. We heard the permissions took more than a year to get for this alley, and it involved every layer in goverment up to Ministry level. Amazing. I mean, it’s just an alley, right?
But now the kids have somewhere to play and the alley is full of plants. And when we get up and running, we’ll be helping them get some great soil going too.
